ABOUT US

People are important at Gordon Medical. Practitioners, staff, patients, we all are individuals with needs. We provide our patients with the best care possible, while treating our staff like family. Coming to Gordon Medical is like coming home, where you are seen as someone with something to say, where the problems you are facing are real, and where we work together to improve your health, and your life.

Our Services

Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) was once limited to supplements and herbs. Today, these approaches are part of a comprehensive system, including many disciplines.

Gordon Medical Associates is internationally recognized for helping patients who felt ill but had normal test results. Our initial success came with the management of complex pain problems, as well as fibromyalgia, heavy metal toxicity, Lyme disease, and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

The word spread as we successfully tackled autoimmune diseases and environmentally and chemically triggered problems. We were early proponents of bio-identical hormone balancing, the treatment of toxic mold problems, and new approaches to working with autism. And we offer specialty services in prevention, wellness, and hormone balancing. In every instance, our clinicians tailor optimal treatments to your individual symptoms. We create a treatment plan designed specifically for you, drawing from a variety of approaches.

In addition to the methods used by the practitioners, GMA staff provides a wide range of supportive services to help you in your quest for health. Under the Services tab, we have provided information on some of our most commonly used techniques and tests, so you understand what purpose each service has in your health care. Be sure to go to the individual service page to get all the details, including whether or not it requires a prescription. Many of the Body Technologies are available for self referral by GMA patients and the public.

Our Vision

Helping people heal is the focus of my life. Early in my career, I observed how people respond very differently to the same treatments. How people suffered for years because they didn’t connect with the therapy that their situation required. This observation led me to explore many approaches to healing.

The clinic I envision is one where the patient is matched to the therapy that best suits their needs in order to heal effectively. Choosing the right therapy, at the right time, is a difficult art made harder when the patient has a chronic illness. Our goal is to develop methods and technologies to efficiently fit the treatments to the patient.

Acute illness is generally about the initiating event; the fall, the lack of sleep, or the exposure to a bug. These are acute illnesses when they resolve within a few weeks, either with treatment or by the body’s own healing ability.

When they persist for more than 6 months we call them chronic conditions. At this point the illness is about your unique response to the triggering event, and the nature of the trigger is somewhat less important. The predominant paradigm in Western medicine is to focus on the trigger. We focus on you, and what makes you different.

We are pursuing our goals by exploring many modalities of treatment, and partnering with researchers at UCSD, Stanford University, along with several groups working to improve collecting and processing patient history and outcome data.

Now Recruiting! Analyzing Individual Metabolomics Study (AIMS)

Science in Service of Humanity (SISOH), GMA’s research arm,  is currently organizing AIMS, funded through the Gordon Medical Research Center (GMRC), a non-profit funding research into chronic illness, and with advice from the Naviaux Lab at UC San Diego. AIMS will be the third metabolomics study looking at how comprehensive metabolomics analysis can be used to evaluate CFS/ME. AIMS builds on our previous studies, also conducted in collaboration with Robert Naviaux at UC San Diego, which demonstrated there is a clear metabolomic profile in patients with CFS/ME.

Published August 2016!

Chronic fatigue syndrome is a multisystem disease that causes long-term pain and disability. It is difficult to diagnose because of its protean symptoms and the lack of a diagnostic laboratory test. We report that targeted, broad-spectrum metabolomics of plasma not only revealed a characteristic chemical signature but also revealed an unexpected underlying biology. Metabolomics showed that chronic fatigue syndrome is a highly concerted hypometabolic response to environmental stress that traces to mitochondria and was similar to the classically studied developmental state of dauer. This discovery opens a fresh path for the rational development of new therapeutics and identifies metabolomics as a powerful tool to identify the chemical differences that contribute to health and disease.
