Individual Patient Appointments Scheduling Soon
– Carolyn is currently assisting Dr. Gordon, but will be available for individual appointments soon. Check back for updates.
Carolyn Beach Welcome, PA-C, received a Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies with departmental honors from Seton Hall University, and is a member of Pi Alpha, the National Honor Society for Physician Assistants. From 2007 until 2014 Carolyn practiced medicine in New York City at Lyme Resource Medical, the office of Bernard D. Raxlen, MD, a founding member of the International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society (ILADS) who has treated tick-borne illness successfully for over 30 years.
A graduate of Northwestern University, Carolyn has an arts background as an actress and writer. She was a founding member of The Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble in Pennsylvania and worked in regional repertory theatre for a decade. As a freelance journalist, she has written about actors and playwrights, food and travel.
About 20 years ago, Carolyn decided to pursue a career in medicine after her young son survived a serious illness. Having artfully dodged math and science as an undergraduate, she went back to school for postgraduate premedical studies and then on to PA school. Her clinical specialty is Lyme disease and related infections. She learned from Dr. Bernard Raxlen that treating complex chronic illness requires a working “knowledge of neurology, psychiatry, rheumatology, ophthalmology, gastroenterology, gynecology, endocrinology,” as well as the ability to listen with compassion.
When caring for patients, she strives to use the perceptive faculties and communication skills cultivated during her years in the arts.
She enjoys reading, cooking, hiking and yoga, which she has practiced on and off since the age of 15. After moving to her husband’s native California in August 2016, she is thrilled to have landed at GMA among such brilliant and dedicated practitioners and looks forward to treating a variety of chronic illnesses.
