“Balance in all things is a major component of our health and happiness. If there is balance between our external and internal environments health will occur naturally. This balance is not fixed but is constantly shifting, requiring a certain level of attentiveness from us. Doing just enough to achieve balance is all that is required. Thus, doing less can be more.

Balance should also exist between physician and patient. When the communication is clear, honest, and compassionate, the process of healing is enhanced.”

Poor Sleep and Some Strange Causes

Lauren Gordon-FahnBy Lauren Gordon-Fahn, LAc

Those who struggle with insomnia, even if it is infrequent, can find themselves more impacted by the lack of sleep in winter. Winter is a time to focus on restoration more than energy output. There are hundreds of causes for insomnia. The Importance of Vulnerability in Treatment

There are some pains that partially fade, come and go, but we carry the remnants, the bits and pieces that don’t go away.  As a patient, and as a practitioner, I have come to believe many parts of us can be healed more deeply than we have allowed. The human body is designed [Read more…]

Out with the Old In with the New Mind and Body

Bio picBy Lauren Gordon-Fahn, L.Ac.

While this is the season to be freely giving of love and good cheer there may be other parts of our system that are feeling contained, sluggish, and well, constipated! Not a usual topic for the season but this word, be it only mentioned in a whisper, has a few meanings and can be limiting our joyous movement forward into the new year.

In Chinese Medicine the inability to sort through things and let them go often falls under the domain of three Meridians: the Small Intestine, the Large Intestine, and the Liver. Emotional and Physical constraint are dominated by these three energy channels and there are a few quick fixes merging Acupressure and Meditation that may make- if I may be so bold – more room in your system for welcoming the new year

For a little New Year’s Resolution Self Care, test this system daily for three weeks. Do each set in the ordered listed: massage then the meditative mantra!
